Teat(r)o Oficina
As Bacantes
José Celso Martinéz Corrêa

This frame will be organized in the form of seminars, talks and practical workshops, in different groups led by Teat(r)o Oficina members, on the following areas:

•Dramaturgy, Acting and Communication__through text, music and body studies, this axis aim to investigate the unfolding of theatrical language departing from its origins, its ritualistic forms, mythological characteristics and social-political functions. How has the ancient Greek theater shaped the work of a Brazilian modern theater company? How does it enable an on-going research on forms of communication in the present actions of the group?

•Architecture, costumes and set design__ great part of the aesthetics of the company is developed through the connections which the theatrical action allows between architecture, the urban space and the bodies. The team of architects designing the sets for the pieces is also a group of activists playing an important role on city planning discussions in São Paulo nowadays. This axis of studies will focus on tracing the lines between the scenic and the urban space, both as creative triggers of the public sphere.

•Video-theater and live streaming__ one of the main practices of the company since its beginning has been the development of video, live video and streaming as an intrinsic part of its productions. The video as a performative element and the cinematographers as actors in the piece. This axis would allow to reflect on role of video as a tool for theatrical experimentation and diffusion. This could include exhibition of films and video material from the company’s archive.

The participation will be open through an application to local artists/ technicians interested in exchanging with the company. The number of participants and procedures of selection shall be agreed with the local producers according to contextual conditions. Some of the participants may be invited to take part in the performances.
